San Francisco indie-pop duo New Spell are like a strange hallucinatory dream. Their unique brand of shimmering, moody synth-pop seems completely cerebral… like it’s coming from the depths of your subconscious.
No matter your situation, there will always be a set of complex, unsettling questions sitting uncomfortably in the back of your mind. It was from these thoughts that New Spell found inspiration to write their new single Of Time.
“A case study in what it means to grow, change, and find self-actualisation despite the perpetuity of time”: San Francisco duo New Spell compact big ideas on their new single Of Time.
Made up of vocalist Leanne Kelly and drummer/synth player Jacob Frautschi, New Spell are a dark indie-pop band with an incredible penchant for creating infectious pop tunes with an unsettling spin.
Their new track Of Time is “a case study in what it means to grow, change, and find self-actualisation despite the perpetuity of time,” say the band.
As a therapist-in-training by day, Kelly writes songs as a method for personal catharsis, though she also hopes her songs will help audiences connect to inner truths.
Through bright synths and airy vocals, the band’s new single creates a strange effect of simultaneously building and remaining stationary. It’s a truly mesmerising experience.
