I’ve taken home some pretty bad report cards in my time, and I remember vividly the kind of fear I felt as my parents broke the seals on those yellow envelopes. I can imagine that John Lennon and I are alike in this area.
In 1956, Lennon (aged 15) took home a pretty disgraceful report card, written by a bunch of teachers who didn’t really know what they were on about. Sounds familiar.
“He has too many wrong ambitions and his energy is too often misplaced“: Read what John Lennon’s school teachers had to say about him at age 15.
Read some quotes from the report card below:
French teacher: “An intelligent boy who could be very much better with a little concentration in class.”
Math teacher: “He is certainly on the road to failure if this goes on.”
Physics teacher: “His work always lacks effort. He is content to ‘drift’ instead of using his abilities.”
Religion teacher: “Attitude in class most unsatisfactory.”
Headmaster: “He has too many wrong ambitions and his energy is too often misplaced.”
