5 free Sydney shows not to be missed this long weekend

The year’s first long weekend is almost upon us, a time to kick back and wind down after the new year’s return to responsibility. A time to enjoy your extra day off without having fun at the expense of anybody else’s culture – turns out it can be done!

If you celebrate anything this weekend, let it be some live music or an art show with a few of your mates. Here are five spots to hit up if that sounds like your jam – all for free.

Stuck for something to do this long weekend? Make the best of your Monday off with these 5 events kicking off in Sydney.

Kilter – Sunday 27 Jan, The Sheaf Hotel

Nationally renowned party starter Kilter will be making his first appearance of 2019 at The Sheaf Hotel on Sunday, January 27th. He’ll be playing around dinnertime, but be sure to head along earlier in the day if you want to drink and dine your way through triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown and stay planted.

Sheaf Sundays is a free weekly affair, opening up one of the Eastern Suburb’s longest-standing venues to DJs and all manner of world-class acts. If you’re around their end of town, this is a hot pick for the day.

Nick Cave’s Until – All Weekend, Carriageworks

Nick Cave’s Until is open 10am-6pm daily. Find out more here.

All My Friends 1st Birthday – Saturday 26 Jan, The Bank Hotel

Sydney-based club night All My Friends is turning one year old this weekend, and celebrating the way they know best. Free from 11pm and kicking until 4am, they’ve got your Saturday night spot sorted with hours upon hours of DJs spinning the best indie tunes.
