Ongoing protests in Hong Kong have reached an unprecedented two million person engagement, the action coming against a controversial international extradition law.
In an attempt to encourage people to get out of their houses and onto the streets to protest, porn sites have shut down in solidarity with the movement.
In response to massive citizen protest in Hong Kong, several porn sites have shut down. Their message? You should be on the streets.
They’re not the first industry to go on strike, either. Nearly 100 local Hong Kong businesses closed down on the day of the protest, allowing workers to partake. Porn sites joined retailers, law firms, and other commercial entities in their expressions of support.
Users of the porn website AV01 were notified with a message specifying that answers may be sought by attending the Legislative Council the following day. Another site, This AV, called upon its users to attend the “life and death” protests and stop “playing” online.
The political crisis has now entered its second week, following protestors rejecting an apology by political leader Carrie Lam. Protestors are still advocating for the withdrawing of the controversial extradition bill and her resignation.
