A Little Loud chat their incredible debut EP

If you haven’t already listened to the debut EP from American sibling duo A Little Loud, stop what you’re doing and go listen to it now. The EP is brimming with adventurous pop brilliance, and we’ve had it spinning on repeat ever since we first laid ears on it.

Fresh off the EP’s release, we caught up with band members Satch and Shaine to chat all about it, their origins as a musical duo, and what the future holds.

Hot off the release of their incredible debut self-titled EP, we caught up with American sibling duo A Little Loud for a chat.

HAPPY: Hey, how’s it going? What are you up to at the moment?

SHAINE: It’s going great, we’re preparing for some shows coming up, and we’ve broken ground on our next release. It’s been pretty busy.

HAPPY: We’re loving the new EP! How does it feel having it out there in the world?

SATCH: I’m just excited, it’s been a while in the making and a long process in the studio, I’m really happy with the way it came together. Now’s the fun time, we can really press it. Our live set has become pretty cool, I’m very excited for our upcoming shows.

HAPPY: It feels like you guys have a really strong direction with your sound. How long had you been playing music together before you released the EP?

SATCH: We’ve been messing around with various instruments and such together for a long time, but only maybe a few months before the EP did it become something
real. I had some song ideas (which eventually became All Time, Beautiful Life, and Disappear), and I started to learn production with the help of a very talented local experimental producer, Mike Adamo. Then Shaine started up with keyboards and synthesizers, and we eventually began to really play together as a duo.

HAPPY Tomorrow was a standout track for us. Could you tell us a bit about that track?

SATCH: It’s funny you should say that. Tomorrow started out as just a fun project that unexpectedly became something that could go on the EP. As we were working on it, this great hook kind of developed, you know, “picture you and me, stay where we can see, gaze upon the ashes of tomorrow…” We love to play that one live, it’s actually our opener.

SHAINE: Tomorrow has this relaxing melody, and we use it to ease into a concert, not to mention it’s definitely the most serene song to perform.

HAPPY: Do you have any favourites off the EP?

SHAINE: Yeah my favourite shifts around multiple times a week, sort of a “Wow, you know what sounded really good and way better than that other one” dialogue. Today my favourite is All Time.

SATCH: We don’t even consider releasing, or even finishing a song that we don’t feel is special. So you could say they’re all my favourites. But in terms of our live set, I love playing Disappear and Beautiful Life.

HAPPY: Are there any particular artists you’re listening to at the moment?

SHAINE: Britney Spears, especially Baby One More Time, and Imagine Dragons right now. I like to blast music at unhealthily high volumes.

SATCH: I’ve been listening to a lot of Chvrches recently, I love Lauren’s voice. It’s a lot of fun listening to them. Also, I’ve just started getting into some vintage Katy Perry, I
never really listened to her stuff before now. Her album Teenage Dream has some awesome songs.

HAPPY: What’s next for A Little Loud? Any other exciting plans in the works?

SHAINE: Actually, we have a new single coming July 19th, titled The Way Home, we can’t wait for the release. We are also already working on our next big project, which may take some time.

SATCH: We’re planning some bigger local/regional shows at the moment, it would be amazing to come play in Australia.

HAPPY: Cheers for the chat!
