Jacob Collier delivers stunning Tiny Desk Concert ahead of his Aussie tour

Jacob Collier is known for his Youtube videos in which he plays homemade, split-screen covers and original tracks in his tiny bedroom studio.

But last Monday, Collier made himself at home in another tiny space when he made a debut visit to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Accompanied by backup singers and multi-instrumentalists, Jacob Collier played his way through three glistening tracks.

The singer dabbled in acoustic bass and piano while he boasted his impeccable range with ease. “It just feels like such a tremendous, ridiculous honour to sit behind this hallowed desk,” said Collier after opening with Make Me Cry, the debut single off his album, Djesse Vol. 2.

For his final song, Collier aimed to surprise, performing a track which he had written just days before especially for the Tiny Desk. It Don’t Matter, a jazzy and melodic track, demonstrated his skill and versatility as an artist.

The mini-concert gives us a little sneak peek into what we can expect from Collier when he makes his way to New Zealand and Australia this August and September. He will also be hitting up the highly anticipated Brisbane Festival.

Collier’s new touring setup is set to scale up the concepts behind his original one-man-show and incorporate a band of multi-talented performers, playing over 30 acoustic and electronic instruments.
