Melbourne psychonauts Shiva and the Hazard’s have just dropped an absolutely wicked singe, Angkor Wat.
It’s the first release since their debut, EP Future Cult Classics, and it promises to deliver.
Shiva and the Hazards have announced big news in spades. Two huge support tours and a red hot single have solidified the outfits growing prowess.
Melbourne psych-rockers Shiva and the Hazards have dropped an acid-laced, space traveller in Angkor Wat. It’s their first release since their debut 2018 EP Future Cult Classics and is set so achieve similar critical acclaim.
To add to the hype they have announced a huge National/NZ tour supporting legendary shoe-gaze rockers RIDE on their first visit to Australia in 27 years. In addition, they are supporting 90s Brit pop hit makers, Cast, along with a few sideshows peppered throughout.
Combining the vintage guitar sounds of Jefferson Airplane and Jimi Hendrix, with the acid-drenched modern grooves of Tame Impala, Angkor Wat sees Shiva and the Hazards develop their trans atlantic sound with a dose of distinctly Australian psychedelia.
‘Shine just like a diamond on a temple in the dawning sky’, is no doubt inspired by the religious temple complex in Cambodia, of which the song derives it’s name. Considering the layered foundation and expansive ambient flourishes, the music might mimic the buildings iconic structure too.

Shiva and the Hazards are quickly making a name for themselves in the vast ocean that is Australian psych-rock. With our biggest exports establishing prominent international footing, it says a lot when a psych-rock band can raise it’s head above the muck.
Yet this exactly what Shiva and the Hazards have done, and with an impending debut album surely around the corner, this is one band in command of their sound.
