It was back in 2017, with their debut single Sleepyhead, that Sketch Jets first came sauntering into our lives with their woozy brand of emo music. Since then, the Sydney-based outfit have refined their sound into something that feels equal parts dreamy and direct—their music will flutter around your head before landing firmly in your bones.
With the release of their latest single Midnight Forever (their first release since 2018’s San Fran Dreamland), the group have re-established their penchant for crafting immersive sonic gems. If you’re not already listening to this band, we strongly recommend you change that.
On their dreamy new single Midnight Forever, Sydney-based outfit Sketch Jets craft a narcotised slice of immersive emo-pop.
Throughout the new single, Sketch Jets glide through a hallucinatory blend of indie-rock, emo, and psychedelia to deliver something uniquely their own. With disorientatingly narcotised guitar lines and dream-like vocal melodies, Midnight Forever oozes with a droning charm.
With a run-time that lasts over four minutes, the track never really begins and never really ends; it fades in and out of existence, leaving all but a memory—a strange chesty feeling. The way the album weaves itself through your psyche is really quite amazing.
Midnight Forever is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from Sketch Jets, but marks a significant step forward in the evolution of their sound. Judging by this first new taste of thise next era of the band, I’m sure we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes moving forward.
