After sharing a secretive post earlier this week, The Strokes have come out with the goods, confirming the release date and title of their sixth album, The New Abnormal.
The band have also shared an incredible new song, accompanied by an equally kick-ass video, pretty much re-affirming why we love them so much (not that they needed to). Check it out below.
The Strokes make their long-awaited return in spectacular form, unveiling a powerful, slow-burning new track, and an equally mesmerising video.
The new single, At The Door, starts off with sparse synths and noticeably cleaner vocals. The track slowly builds, in heart-wrenching fashion. “Not tryna build no dynasty,” Julian Casablancas sings. “I can’t see beyond this wall, but we lost this game so many times before.” It feels like a mixture of regret, nostalgia, resignation, and yearning.
The accompanying music video is seriously spectacular, seemingly influenced by the cult ’80s cartoon Masters of the Universe.
With the single, the band have confirmed the release date of The New Abnormal, which is coming real damn soon: April 10th. This will be their first full-length album since 2013’s Comedown Machine.
Check out At The Door below. We’ll keep you posted as more unfolds.
The New Abnormal will be out on the 10th of April, via Cult Records.
