David Byrne‘s online magazine Reasons To Be Cheerful has just announced a new COVID-19 project, aimed to inspire change during the pandemic. #NowAnythingIsPossible is an article series which is set to explore some of the societal shifts that have been made possible since the beginning of the pandemic, advocating for their continuing implementation.
Reasons to be Cheerful has announced that the project will run throughout May, with the first contributions posted to the site over the weekend.
Decongested cities, guaranteed incomes, green new deals, fairer justice systems? Reasons To Be Cheerful is exploring the social changes that no longer seem out of reach.
“A lot has changed over the last couple of months,” the magazine’s promotional video states. “Sometimes it feels like the old rules are out the window, and a whole new world is taking shape right before our eyes.”
“Transformational moments like these have a way of accelerating progress in ways that we could hardly imagine. Suddenly goals that always seemed out of reach become possible. Everything is on the table, and the changes we’ve needed for years go from fantasy to reality almost overnight.”
Following on from Byrne’s personal essay on the necessity for change during this time, the article series will question what our future will look like following the pandemic. How do we know that the changes which are taking place are the right ones? How do we emerge from this situation a stronger community? How will we use this time to create a better world than we originally had? These are just some of the questions the series will examine.
The former Talking Heads frontman founded the solutions-oriented publication in August of 2019, aiming to balance out the “amplified negativity” in modern media.
