Sharon Stone says there’s nothing she can do to stop a 4K restoration of Basic Instinct from being released.
Actress Sharon Stone has said that she is powerless to stop the release of the restoration, even if it means audiences can see her vagina even clearer than in the original version of Basic Instinct from 1992.
Director Paul Verhoeven oversaw the restoration throughout 2019 and 2020 in preparation for the 30th anniversary of the film’s release.
Now, before we all giggle at a ‘4k pussy’ joke – let’s understand Basic Instinct and its restoration, has some serious issues around consent.
Despite obvious issue’s surrounding consent, Verhoeven has confirmed that “bonus material from Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas” will be included.
It is unclear whether the infamous scene in high-definition is considered “bonus material.”
“They’ve decided to release the director’s triple-X cut for the 30th anniversary,” Stone told “A Current Affair”.
When asked if there was anything she could do to prevent the release, Stone revealed that there “are new Screen Actors Guild rules about that…but they were made after I, as a young lady, made this film, and so they don’t apply to me.”
Many regard this as a serious issue, considering that Stone didn’t know that her vagina would be on display in the film in the first place.
In her recent memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, Stone recalled watching the completed film back for the first time:
“Not on my own with the director, as one would anticipate, given the situation that has given us all pause, so to speak, but with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project,” she wrote.
“That was how I saw my vagina shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything — I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.’”
The Beauty of Living Twice gets its title from when Stone suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2001.
The doctors struggled to identify the problem, gave her exploratory brain surgery without her consent, and misdiagnosed her.
However, she survived, despite a 1 per cent chance of her living – let alone making a recovery.
Since then, Stone has vowed to make her second chance meaningful, and if that means speaking out about her vagina, so be it.
A casting director has just publicly compared me to Sharon Stone in a room full of industry greats and I’m going to go faint now
