John Farnham to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with cancer

The legendary John Farnham, known best for 1986 hit, You’re The Voice is set to undergo surgery in a Victorian hospital after being diagnosed with cancer.

A statement made by his family has confirmed that singer, John Farnham has been admitted to the hospital for surgery and ongoing treatment today (August 23), after doctors recently discovered a cancerous growth.

 “We have recently discovered that John has a cancerous growth,” his wife Jill and family, have shared said in a statement. “He has been admitted to hospital this morning for surgery and ongoing treatment.”

Farnham, 73, has said he is grateful to have the best specialist care Australia has to offer: Cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day, and countless others have walked this path before me,” shared the singer. “The one thing I know for sure is that we have the best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria, and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”

The statement did not provide any additional information on Farnham’s diagnosis, and his family has requested privacy during his treatment. 

John Farnham’s 1986 album, Whispering Jack still remains the highest-selling Australian album of all time, and contains his hit single, You’re the Voice which propelled him into stardom, and cemented Farnham’s rightful place as a national treasure.
