Dolly Parton’s prolific book charity has just been passed in senate

Dolly Parton’s tireless efforts see that over 2 million kids who need books the most receive them for free.

The Country songbird’s generosity knows no bounds, harking back to her classic, Coat of Many Colors, Dolly knows what it means to grow up poor, and to have gratitude for something given in love. And Dolly sure has a lot of love to give.

Dolly Parton’s generous charity that gives free books to kids has expanded to California. More than 2 million children just became eligible for free books all thanks to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has just signed Senate Bill 1183 to establish Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program in the state outlining in particular how it will work.

The program will use money from a dedicated fund “to provide age-appropriate books on a monthly basis, delivered at home for free to each child registered in the program, from birth to their 5th birthday, inclusive, at no cost to families, through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.”

Dolly created her groundbreaking philanthropic book library in 1995, and now delivers books to kids in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK (In a recent partnership with earlier in the year with Penguin Publishing, is providing books for refugee children) and Ireland. Having begun as an initiative to provide books to children in East Tennessee, where Parton grew up, it has now given away more than 190 million books to date.

Sharing her sentiments via her Imagination Library website“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor, an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”
