Lara Villani follows up debut with powerful new single Ghost Of You

Melbourne based songwriter Lara Villani asserts her personal power in the face of deceit with her rock tinted new single Ghost Of You

Following the release of her debut single ‘Stop’, Lara Villani returns to capitalise on the heat left in its wake with ‘Ghost Of You’ .

Her own version of a pop rock anthem, ‘Ghost Of You’ borrows from both ballad and classic rock to track Villani’s inability to leave a past lover’s memory alone.

Produced by Danny Lopez and Steven Harris, ‘Ghost Of You’ relies on its gritty guitar solos and spaciousness to allow Lara’s vocal to hold down the fort.

With a growl in her tone mixed with a soulful texture, Lara creates soft verses that alight into a serrated chorus.

This track keeps things simple, just guitars, bass, produced drums and Lara’s vocal to create the sound.

This approach clearly emulates the rock style recording of the past, using only what is necessary and “real” to funnel Lara’s emotion.

Catchy post-chorus vocalisations and relatable lyricism make ‘Ghost Of You’ memorable and accessible.

With listeners able to imprint their own experiences onto the sonic backdrop Lara offers, she issues understanding and emotional release.

Refusing to hold back, Lara sets herself loose on the object of both her irritation and obsession, turning her rage into power and her regrets into healing.

‘Ghost Of You’ is both a break up song and an empowered relinquishing of control.

Lara unleashes her musical passion and channels it into a mix of genre and emotion.

With only two singles out in the world to date, we are seeing Lara at the beginning of her musical career.

She leaves herself open to change, but captivates her listeners as she explores and discovers new parts of herself and in turn her music.

This track exudes a desire to achieve her dreams and to perform with vulnerability and power.

Dropping alongside the single is an enchanting music video, skillfully directed by the visionary Mertcan Damoglu and expertly produced by Caleb Keyte of Tier One Productions. This cinematic gem weaves a visual tale that perfectly complements the profound emotions embedded in the song.

Within the video, Lara gracefully delves into the intricacies of supporting a friend navigating heartbreak, embodying a role that is both understated and profoundly impactful.

Lara shares, “In the music video, I’m embodying a fragment of someone’s imagination. Often, in a toxic relationship, you wear metaphorical blinders, yet that small voice persists, urging you to break free. I wanted to capture this visually for the song.”

Through a tapestry of evocative visuals, the video eloquently explores the challenges of witnessing a friend grapple with heartbreak and the delicate dance of trying to reach through to them.

Lara Villani may be at the precipice of her journey, but she has a map marked and drawn for where she wants to go next.
