Nobody will argue Pokémon Go has taken the world by storm. I even saw people flinging poke balls at a gig on Saturday night. Who knew your quest to become a Pokémon master could be putting you in danger?
Pokémon Go seems perfectly innocent, but like every other worldwide online trend, some criminals have found a way to use their Poke-powers for bad.
Yesterday, the local police department of O’Fallon, Missouri made a Facebook post detailing their response to a series of armed robberies. It is believed the four suspects, armed with a handgun, were using Pokémon Go lures to attract victims.
“These suspects are suspected of multiple Armed Robberies both in St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. It is believed these suspects targeted their victims through the Pokémon Go smart phone application.”
Next time you head out onto the street at midnight to chase a Pikachu, Pidgey or a Jigglypuff, in addition to looking both ways before crossing the road, try to undertake a quick check for suspicious folk.
“Apparently they were using the app to locate people standing around in the middle of a parking lot or whatever other location they were in.”
Not every Pokémon trainer has the same childlike enjoyment and ambition to be the best there ever was, some only want to rob you for all the money, poké balls and potions you have.
