Abroad deliver an electric tropical banger in Slide that is absolutely dripping with vibe and a splash of melancholic longing.
The Sydney-duo, have proved that they are not slowing down on the brilliant tunes after their latest breakout banger, All I Want.
Abroad push a cacophonous, heady house sound on new single Slide, and it’s an aesthetic that is quickly becoming synonymous with the duo.
Sydney based Abroad, have crafted a sound that, when heard, one can only close their eyes and smile. The rich percussion, deep locked grooves and breathy, longing vocals create a vast soundscape that could just as easily be enjoyed by the pool in Summer, or at a festival main stage.
The duo, made up of Will Cruger and Jack Dawson, draws inspiration on their time overseas in their songwriting and sound, emphasising both members’ unique, weightless vocals with synths and guitars over smooth drums. Named for the cities in which they were written, the EPs London and New York were released to great success, accruing over one million streams on Spotify.
The stripped back drum beat on Slide allows for a flock of floating synths to swoop down lending colour and context to the groovy bass lines. Continuing with the more polished sound of All I Want, Slide is the second single to come out this year from the Australian duo, showcasing both Jack and Will’s voices, with harmonies at the forefront of the track’s aesthetic.
The breathy, buoyant vocals lend likeness to Rufus whilst the electro-house grooves feel akin to Touch Sensitive and Flume, giving new direction to the eclectic duo. Either way, every song these two drop is a sure fire hit and they are showing no signs of slowing down. We will be keeping a close eye on Abroad as they continue to travel, write and make people dance.
