CLEAR has delivered the ambient slow-electronica track we’ve yearning for. Always will have you in an unsuspected fit of joyful weeping with its brilliant balance of bitter-sweet, sweeping synths and touching, hushed vocals.
Always has the ability to make you reconnect and bond with even the most distant of friends or family, stirring up deep impulses of emotive nostalgia that you didn’t know you had.
Always is one of those tracks that has a bit of everything, as it seamlessly traverses across a myriad of sound aesthetics key to more than one definitive context of musical history. Immediately, I can’t help but feel the deep aches of ’80s sci-fi film nostalgia thanks to the deep resonance of the song’s warm and well-rounded synth textures. It’s easy to picture a futuristic cyber-punk scene washed with the constant drizzle of acid-rain over dark skies as our protagonist contemplates the moral confliction of sharing a romantic relationship with an innoncent A.I robot.
But this not exactly the story CLEAR is expressing in Always. It’s actually the bittersweet realisation of a newfound love that has come to fruition after extended periods of longing. ”You will always hold me tight” is probably one of the most simple but beautifully executed expressions of appreciation for an endeared other that I’ve heard for a long time. CLEAR’S soft and soaring vocals, which predominantly sit around the low end of her range, have the ability to create an instant atmosphere of consoling, warm caress, which feels incredibly direct and personal despite only hearing the track for the first time.
With a string of great singles under her belt, it is with little doubt that we expect to see CLEAR rising rapidly through the ranks on her solo musical endeavor. Having independently recorded and released a song that took but 10 minutes to compose, it is with great anticipation that we look to CLEAR’s upcoming projects in the near future.
