AMAs 2019: Taylor Swift named artist of the decade

Taylor Swift has put a tough year behind her by taking out Artist of the Decade at the 2019 American Music Awards overnight.

Claiming six awards for the night, the You Need To Calm Down singer has done the opposite and surpassed Michael Jackson’s AMA’s award record by achieving 29 awards overall.

The evening truly belonged to Taylor Swift, not only being honoured with Artist of the Decade, but taking out Artist of the Year and Favourite Pop Album for her LP, Lover.

Swift has had a tough year, with most of it spent embroiled in a custody battle with her former manager Scooter Braun, over the ownership of their musical babies (her first few albums). It’s a messy, classic Taylor Swift drama that, as usual, seems to peak whenever she releases a new album. With any luck however, the contract dispute will be peacefully resolved and Swift can go back to focusing on doing what she does best: filling stadiums with legions of fans and their nonplussed chaperones.

Watch the win below:

Billie Eilish took a break from her climate action, taking out New Artist of the Year and Favourite Alternative Artist. Despite the room being filled with the best American music has to offer (put your edgy opinion back in your canvas bag already) the night was stolen by the undeniable queen of the people, Lizzo, with an earth-shattering performance of her new song Jerome. Unfortunately the powers that be have not allowed an official video to be released just yet, but keep those eyes peeled. it’s definitely coming, and it’ll be good as hell.
