Byron Bay four-piece PLTS have proven they’re a sonic force to be reckoned with time and again. Look no further than their latest single On & On, which is by far their best work to date. Produced by John Paul Fung, the single is as empowering as it is rousing. The band have provided us with a photo diary detailing their experience recording the track with JP, which you can check out here. They’re also heading out on the road this month for a quick Summer tour with Pro Vita, you can check out all the dates below!
PLTS take us behind the scenes at Alberts Studio for an exclusive look at the making of their massive tune On & On. Turns out they’re pretty photogenic too.
JP in his studio
For those that don’t know him, this is Jean Paul Fung (or the back of his head). He produced, engineered, mixed and co-wrote On and On. He knows more shortcuts on ProTools than the average Joe and knows where to get the meanest Fish Tacos in all of Cremorne. We love his previous work (which you can find at the click of a google) and loved what we achieved with him even more.
Haz-man on the couch
Previously on new recording projects I’ve always tracked drums first, before recording any other elements. So when JP mentioned that we’d be tracking drums last, I was totally thrown out and had to occupy myself for days of guitars, bass and vocals before the real action started for me. Most of it was spent horizontal, poking fun at Kit (vocals) and Byron (guitars) for not following the click. Other duties involved doing food runs to keep morale high.
JP Fung in his studio
JP’s natural habitat at Alberts in Sydney. Fruit and nut mix within arms reach at all times.
Byron slappin’ da bass
This wasn’t Byron’s first rodeo. The guy has better rhythm me, writes better beats and can air-drum the shit out of any Jimmy Eat World song you name. He tracked the Bass for On & On as Eli was in America and from memory he only needed 1 take to nail it. P-Bass or Bust!
Kit with Lucille (the guitar)
Meet Lucille. She’s the undisclosed 5th member of PLTS and was the go-to weapon for most of the guitar tracks. I really enjoyed Kit’s guitar tracking during these sessions, his melodies and his ideas on the strings were on point!
Alberts Studios, Sydney
Sadly I think Alberts have since packed up and moved, so this studio is finished. We couldn’t be more stoked on what came out of this room, mad props to JP for putting up with us and making the whole process from Pre-pro to mixing a dream. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more magic in the future!
