WAAX are an Australian rock band hailing from the sunny climes of Brisbane. Forming in 2013 the outfit are hailed for their honest, emotional lyrics and punchy, overdriven punk rock arrangements.
They released two independent EPs: Holy Sick in 2015 and Wild and Weak in 2017. After supporting Fall Out Boy on their Australian leg of the Mania tour, WAAX signed to Universal imprint label Dew Process.
A month later they released the single Labrador and embarked on a 12 date national tour. During their 2018 Splendour In The Grass performance WAAX were joined on stage by Bernard Fanning for a cover of the Powderfinger classic, Don't Wanna Be Left Out.
Their 2019 debut album Big Grief has achieved widespread acclaim due to frontwoman Maz DeVita's powerful rasping vocals. Labrador was #88 on Triple J's Hottest 100 in 2019.
In 2019, the band parted ways with guitarist Chris Antolak. Though a setback at the time, WAAX has continued to go from strength to strength, recruiting James Gatling to fulfil lead guitar duties.
The recording of Big Grief was completed with the help of Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning and Powderfinger producer Nick DiDia. It was made over the course of a year in DiDia's Byron Bay studio.
