Ash Schuberg runs us through the songs that have helped shape her sound

Last week, when Sydney based singer-songwriter/producer Ash Schuberg unveiled her two new tracks, The Creator and Diamonds For You, we were immediately immersed in her shimmering, electro-pop sounds.

So fresh off their release, we caught up with Schuberg for a playlist of tracks that have influenced her sound.

Fresh off the release of her two new singles, The Creator and Diamonds For You, Ash Schuberg runs us through the songs that have helped shape her sound.

Stevie Nicks – Edge Of Seventeen

I like drama in music. And Stevie is the queen of this. Epic vocals, I love the beat, the story. So much energy. So much fun to perform as well. Stevie is a Queen.

David Bowie – China Girl

Again, I love the drama in this song. And I’m a sucker for a good guitar solo so that’s probably what I love most about this song. And well… anything Bowie makes me happy really.

Kazinsky – Nightcall

I know every producer loves this song but I can’t lie, I love it too. It’s just sexy. lol. Different, and really gives him as an artist a sound. If an artist has a really distinct sound then I’m hooked.

Paper Kites – Electric Indigo

I’ve been a fan of this song for years. There’s just something about it. It’s a little 80’s, great beat and I like the female call and responses in this too. Beautiful.

Kylie Minogue – Confide In Me

You might have guessed that I’m a sucker for an epic love story now lol… but I love this song. Actually, I loved this whole era of Kylie Minogue. I’m actually a massive fan of hers. This particular track was a really smart choice for her at this time in the 90’s. It’s epic, such a great orchestral motif and I love the sitar sounds in this.

Bjork – There’s More To Life Than This

This song is just cool and so forward thinking. That’s all there is to it. It’s an art piece. I’ve always wanted to be a little more experimental with my music, but this track is something else. If musicians aren’t pushing the boundaries then what’s the point, right?
