It’s been a big week for huge music announcements. Yesterday we shared the news that Fleet Foxes were “alllllmost done” recording their new album and that they would be playing their first show in five years at BBK Live festival in Bilbao.
This morning there have been two more whispers of new music from influential alternative bands, one about The Jesus and Mary Chain returning with their first album in 18 years, and another that Phoenix look like they are about to release a new record.
Big news in the realm of influential alt-rock, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Phoenix both look like they have new material coming out very soon.
The Jesus and Mary Chain haven’t released an album since 1998’s Munki (barring a live album they put out last year). However, Alan McGee (the co-founder of band’s former label, Creation Records) has said in an interview with CBC Music that the band will release a new record next March, saying that “it’s kinda enormous.” Super exciting stuff from the seminal noise rock heroes.
It’s been more than three years since Phoenix released their last album Bankrupt!, and although covered the Beach Boys’ Alone on Christmas Day alongside Billy Murray for A Very Murray Christmas back in 2015, they’ve been pretty quiet.
However, the band recently have updated their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profiles with the same CMYK colour model image, hinting at some new material on the way.
Although no details have been officially confirmed from either, it looks like we’ll be getting some new material from two very influential alternative bands very soon.
