Bob Hawke’s booze collection is going up for auction

The nation mourned when the legendary Aussie PM Bob Hawke, the politician who’s popularity was cemented in his ability to down a schooey in seconds, passed away in May this year.

If you want to always have something to remember Hawkie by, now’s your chance, as a whole heap of his most prized possessions from the Bob Hawke and Blanche d’Alpuget Mementos Curiosities Art and Design Collection will be going up for auction.

A treasure trove of the late Bob Hawke’s prize possessions, including booze from his personal port collection, are going up for auction.

The collection, expected to sell for roughly $250,000, will include all of the interesting possessions that weren’t claimed by his family or by the Bob Hawke museum in Adelaide.

According to Domain, items going up for sale include his framed photos, his old golf clubs, and even an engraved silver bowl that was given to him by Dick Cheney. In addition to these gems, for around $300-500 you can own a bottle of Bob Hawke Vintage Port, from his own personal port collection. There’s also a chance to snap up some of his cigars or his Versace ashtray.

An artwork by Euan McLeod, Lone Figure in Gully, is expected to be the priciest piece of the collection with an estimated selling price of $14,000-18,000.

According to auctioneer Andrew Shapiro, it’ll only cost $5 to enter the auction, and then you’ll have a chance to bid on any piece of memorabilia that your heart desires.

“It is pretty exciting for us to be entrusted with the house of a former PM. I think people are curious about what was dear to his heart. We will be selling his desk and a lot of personal items given to him when he was prime minister,” Shapiro said.

The full collection will be available for viewing on the 24th and 25th of August before it goes to auction on August 27 at the Paddington RSL Club.
