Chet Faker is back! The Aussie songwriter releases first track as Nick Murphy and joins Laneway 2017

Last week, Aussie songwriter Chet Faker announced a change in moniker. Henceforth, he will be releasing music under his real name Nick Murphy. We all knew ‘Chet Faker’ was far too cool to be a real name, anyway.

This morning Murphy released his first track. Titled Fear Less, the song at first feels like an old Chet Faker hit but definitely shows a change in direction.

Chet Faker or Nick Murphy? The former Hottest 100 winner has released his first track under a new name, and Fear Less is an instant hit.

A songwriter who was breaking barriers and evolving before he changed his name, Murphy has been an Australian favourite since his early hits No Diggity and I’m Into You. For the latest taste, follow the link in the post below:

It’s a much more dramatic, live-oriented sound than we’ve come to expect from Chet Faker, known for his stylish downtempo crooning. It’s immediately obvious from the huge bridge of this track that Murphy has big crowds in mind for the future.

Funnily enough, in the second piece of great news for his fans today, Murphy has been announced as part of the Laneway 2017 lineup. The full lineup drops tomorrow, so watch this space (if you even have any festival money left after NYE).
