Chop, arrange and morph sounds with Grain Scanner

Grain Scanner is the latest addition to the ever-growing collection of Ableton Max for Live plugins. Designed by audio software experts Amazing Noises, Grain Scanner is the evolution of Ableton’s Granulator.

The plugin is a granular synth that lets you chop, arrange, pitch and morph your sounds in complex and unpredictable ways. Grain Scanner Device

Design radical noises, glitchy effects and massive clouds of ambience with the Grain Scanner. Its advanced sound engine makes granular synthesis a cinch.

This Max for Live device is a 10-voice polyphonic granular synthesizer and re-synthesizer. This means that the synth works by taking small pieces of a sample and rearranges them in a multitude of ways. The result is sound that lives somewhere between the organic, synthetic and altogether otherworldly.

The Grain Scanner features duration and pitch controls for you to control the length and character of specific grains. Additionally, you can use the sample panel to highlight the exact section of a sample you’d like to synthesis.

There are 5 modes including sections for Effects, Modulation and LFO. You can modulate each of the 10 voices individually or modulate the global parameters with up to four modulation sources at once. The Scanner also includes a Key Follow function that attenuates the filter parameters different notes. This is very helpful in overcoming the differences in tone of the varying notes on the keyboard as a result of filtering.

All these features allow you to turn any sample into a multi-timbral, ever-evolving instrument and an excellent choice for those looking to jump into the world of granular synthesis.
