D.E.L’s Electrifying Pop Party Playlist

In addition to their latest single, D.E.L has curated a playlist of electrifying tracks that demonstrate the group’s diverse musical influences and impeccable taste.

Fresh off their latest single “Purple (Everything Will Be Alright),” the Sydney-based electro-pop group D.E.L deftly spin tales of unrequited romance and make it into one helluva dance party. Nick’s ethereal vocals serve as a reassuring balm, reminding us that “everything will be alright” before the spacey production takes over, giving way to trap beats and lively hi-hats. Lesser producers might let their lyrics and vocals take a backseat to the infectious rhythm, but not D.E.L.

The track is a testament to D.E.L’s skillful musicianship, and their upcoming EP is poised to take things to the next level. It’s clear that this trio of brothers is on a mission to create innovative and compelling music that pushes the boundaries of the electro-pop genre. If “Purple” is any indication of what’s to come, then we’re in for an exciting ride.

As D.E.L gears up for their upcoming EP, they share their ultimate playlist with us. It’s clear from their choices that the trio has a diverse range of musical influences that inform their sound. From Rufus Du Sol’s “Alive” to Nujabes’ “Luv(sic) Part 2”, D.E.L’s playlist is a celebration of music that inspires and motivates them.

The playlist features an eclectic mix of genres ranging from alternative pop and indie rock to hip-hop and R&B. It’s clear that the band members draw inspiration from a wide range of artists and styles, which is reflected in the seamless transitions between each track.

In particular, the band is drawn to artists who create worlds with their music. Porter Robinson’s “Something Comforting” and Sleepnet’s “Angel Blade” are prime examples of this. Sleepnet’s production/sound seems to exist in its own world, taking listeners on a cosmic journey with its chords and sound design. Meanwhile, Porter Robinson’s music has a unique ability to transport listeners to a different time and place, with “Something Comforting” sounding and structured like an anime opening song, which reminds Timm of his childhood.

D.E.L also includes a track from their other label project, The Eight Five Two. Made up of Timm, Nick, Joe, and their older brother John, The Eight Five Two is an alternative project blending electronic and rock elements. The band’s latest track, “Catch A Feeling”, is a super dreamy, vibe track that the brothers loved putting together and shamelessly listen to on repeat.

Ultimately, D.E.L’s playlist showcases the trio’s love for music and their commitment to creating their own unique sound.

Rufus Du Sol – Alive

Nick – I was lucky enough to watch this masterpiece live in December last year. Rufus Du Sol have definitely been an inspiration for me whenever it comes to writing music for D.E.L. “Alive” feels like the perfect electronic song – it has every element you could ask for. The lyrics ‘at least I’m alive’ always motivate me.

Last Words – Kenny Beats

Tim – I’ve been loving lofi jazz recently and this album from Kenny Beats is insane. He sampled session demos he’s had previously with artists that never got put out, and pastes them all together to blend into just an easy listening experience. I’ve been trying to embrace this cool calm and collected experience into my own beats.

Angel Blade – Sleepnet

Joe – I came across Sleepnet after hearing his collaboration with Skrillex ‘Supersonic’ which I loved – the sound design, chords and drum arrangement are crazy. ‘Angel Blade’ is one off Sleepnet’s debut EP ‘First Light’ and I loved it the moment I heard it. Sleepnet’s production/sound seems to exist in its own world. I love the way this one takes you on a sort of cosmic journey. The chords give me vibes of the score from Nintendo 64’s ‘Perfect Dark’ and the drums and sound designs is mind blowing.

Let Go – Duskus

Joe – I stole this track from Tim. He first introduced me to Duskus playing me a live video of this track, ‘Let Go’. It’s so simple, melodic and beautiful – an amalgamation of everything we try to do as D.E.L. We’ve always loved production that feels minimal but has maximum impact, and as writers and producers, we definitely feel like that is the hardest thing to do – it seems to come easy for Duskus!

Back To Basics – Skepta, Headie One (Floating Points)

Joe – I’ve been listening to this one on and off for the good part of two years and keep coming back. I’m a big fan of Floating Points – his stuff oscillates between psychedelic jazz and electronic garage beats. This one’s a remix – I’m a sucker for the FM sounding bass and the garage groove – Skepta and Headie One’s verses feel like they are made for this beat.

Luv(sic) Part 2 – Nujabes

Tim – This trio of songs from Nujabes (Luv(sic) pt 1,2,3) is amazing, it’s late night driving music, it’s staring at your ceiling at 3am music, it’s staring at the night sky on a summer night’s music. It makes me feel so nostalgic and reflective. Nujabes is amazing.

The Strokes – You Only Live Once (Nick)

Nick – This song was from The Strokes’s  ‘First Impressions of Earth’ album which I used to listen to over and over as a kid which I recently picked up again. It puts me in such a nostalgic space – it’s probably my most listened to track in 2023 so far.

Something Comforting – Porter Robinson

Tim – Porter is one of my favourite artists ever, he just creates worlds with his music, and you get lost in it. I think the reason why I love ‘Something Comforting’ so much is that it sounds and is structured like an anime opening song so it reminds me a lot of my childhood.

Catch A Feeling – The eight five two

Joe – This one is a bit of a plug! The eight five two is one of our other label projects made up of Tim, Nick and I alongside our older brother John. It’s alternative project blending electronic and rock elements. This track, our latest, ‘Catch A Feeling’ is a super dreamy, vibe track that we loved putting together and I shamelessly listen to on repeat. It’s always the goal for me to write music that I love to listen to, and this one I’m super proud of.

Purple (Everything Will Be Alright) – D.E.L

Joe – A final plug – our latest D.E.L tune ‘Purple  (Everything Will Be Alright)’. It’s a vibe, check it out.
