Death Cab just played a career spanning Tiny Desk set.
11 years on from their Tiny Desk debut, Death Cab for Cutie have returned to the desk.
The last time the band took on the desk, it was just Ben Gibbard on vocals, Zac Rae on piano, and Nick Harmer on bass.
Now, they’ve brought the full band, with Dave Depper on guitar and Jason McGerr on drums.
They played two of the best tracks off their latest album, I Built You A Tower, ‘Pep Talk’ and ‘Stone Over Water’.
Before the band went into ‘Title and Registration’, off of 2003’s Transatlanticism, Gibbard quipped that “a lot of them are becoming oldies now.”
“I’m starting to realize that some of our earlier records came out a similar distance away from, like, the Beatles records when I was a kid”, he said.
They closed with ‘Soul Meets Body’, off of Plans, which happens to come following a pretty big week for Plans fans.
At their Outside Lands appearance over the weekend, the band played an extra set, early on in the day, where they treated their lucky attendees to a special full play through of Plans.
At the desk, however, the band recreated their sound almost entirely acoustically.
You’ll even notice the intro to ‘Soul Meets Body’ being played on a nearly 100-year old zither.
