Deep Space Supergroop – CAPS

This song sounds nothing like Pavement” – Rob from Deep Space Supergroop.

It’s good to know that Rob here is looking out for me – when you write about music and have to find 12+ bands per week to cover, you kinda stop paying attention to things like what the music sounds like. It’s all social media links, images, multimedia embedding and the oh so wonderful endless stream of emails. Oh, and let’s not forget that all important URL permalink*

deep space supergroop

Deep Space Supergroop have just dropped a brilliantly fuzzy new single, encapsulating the best of guitar music from the past two decades. Listen to CAPS.

Heck, I was about to write about Deep Space Supergroop‘s newest song without even having the tune grace my world-weary ears. I was gonna recycle some information from this article here, and use phrases like “the Sydney four piece” and “Dinosaur Jr meets Tame Impala” to fill up that word count – I might have even dropped the p-word had I not been warned. You wouldn’t have noticed because you don’t read this far, in fact, I bet you skipped this paragraph altogether. Star Wars. Lima Beans. Edward Macaroni Fork.

But alas no, Rob from the band sent me an email himself and so I kind of owe it to him to give the song a listen, and say something meaningful about it. I must say it’s a refreshing start to a Monday morning to receive an email plugging a band that comes from the band themselves, rather than another stock standard copy and paste press release from some PR intern in Melbourne. No fake ass ‘how was your weekend?‘ or any ‘we’re really excited to be releasing a new track!‘ or any other sentences that really don’t deserve an exclamation mark. Rob’s got the right idea here.

I’m actually so impressed by the professionalism of his emailing, I might head down to one of Deep Space Supergroop’s shows – there’s one at Spectrum on the 18th of July, which is a pretty much the grossest venue in Sydney, buuuuut they’ll be playing with Vowel Movement and Miners – who are both pretty sick bands. Full list of tour dates this month are listed below if you wanna catch them too.

Oh shit, I’m almost at the word count – I’d better actually say something about their latest single CAPS.

It doesn’t sound like Pavement.

That’ll do.

TOUR DATES:

Friday 18 July at Spectrum with Miners and Vowel Movement

Saturday 26 July – FBi Social with Tender Bones (Melb), Sounds Like Sunset, Joseph Liddy & the Skeleton Horse.

*Alex was dismissed from Happy on the grounds of adjective underuse several months ago but keeps working on this stuff from home none the less. We keep forgetting to change our passwords but we’ll get there.
