Donald Glover has said that his current tour, which will include four massive shows in Australia, will be the some of the artist’s last performances as Childish Gambino.
Glover has just kicked off on the North American leg of his tour and made sure to let the crowd know that this is the last time to celebrate the American rapper’s iconic alter ego.
“If you’re at this show know that it’s the last Gambino tour ever. This is not a concert. This is fucking church.”
After receiving the Best R&B Performance Grammy for his massive hit Redbone, he confirmed that he will be retiring his Childish Gambino music project.
“I’m making another project right now, just, you know, to make”, he said at the Grammys. “But I like endings and I think they’re important to progress.”
“I think like, if a lot of things had death clauses in them, we wouldn’t have a lot of problems in the world, to be honest. So I think endings are good because they force things to get better.”
It’s still not confirmed if Glover will drop a full Childish Gambino album, but he did just release two follow-up singles to This Is America, in a Summer Pack release including Summertime Magic and Feels Like Summer.
Childish Gambino is headlining Canberra’s massive Spilt Milk lineup as well as his own Australia sideshows. Glover also announced that he will be bringing his epic three-day PHAROS festival to New Zealand in November this year.
