GRIS: a new meditative game exploring surreal landscapes with a calming score

Gris is a beautifully surreal new video game that will be available on both PC and Nintendo Switch later this year. The game was designed by Nomada Studio and is the first release the Barcelona based studio has put out.

It created by long-time friends Adrian Cuevas and Roger Mendoza, who have strived to bring artistic landscapes together with the simple pleasure of gaming.

Gris is a meditative video game featuring a stunningly original score and beautifully crafted animated landscapes that unfold as abstract mountains, ruins and forests.

The end result is a spellbinding animated world that details the journey of a young girl.

“Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality.”

“As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.”

The serene and evocative experience contrasts the often violent and intense visuals of mainstream gaming with a calming narrative of growth and personal experience.

“GRIS is an experience free of danger, frustration or death. Players will explore a meticulously designed world brought to life with delicate art, detailed animation, and an elegant original score.”

“Through the game light puzzles, platforming sequences, and optional skill-based challenges will reveal themselves as more of Gris’s world becomes accessible.”
