His rawness gives him a special kind of energy. Oh, what a bloody breath of fresh air!!
“Playing music from an early age, I’ve always lived with a passion for music. At age 12 I began to learn to sing and write my own material. From then on I have made every effort to try and capture an audience in my music; and create something real and honest.”
Yes, he was on New Zealand’s Got Talent. Shut up all you silly idiots, TV is a legit platform to get your music out. This guy is 19 and his voice is killer.
And I’ve got to say, it seems to be working for him. Although some may be dubious of his beginnings on the debut series of New Zealand’s Got Talent, Evan Sinton joins the ranks of Matt Corby and Lisa Mitchell in their post TV show success stories, both of whom went on to find huge success in the mainstream Australian music scene. Sinton similarly showcases creativity and a musical ability well beyond his age and experience. At only 19, with his acoustic vibes and lyrical honesty, he brings to mind a mesh of influences ranging from Jeff Buckley to Liam Finn and Led Zeppelin. These musical mash-ups are evident in the underlying smoothness of both Sinton’s guitar and vocals.
After gaining attention on the television show, auditioning with the Beatles classic Blackbird, the New Zealand native came third in the comp before signing directly with Sony Music. Sinton has since supported national and international acts, Reece Mastin and Passenger on tour, gaining him wide spread recognition and his own developing fan base. Sinton is currently playing with Joseph Corban-Banks and Chris Phillips, the bassist and drummer from The Peasants and guitarist Jeremy Keys, to work on developing a well rounded sound prior to the release of his upcoming EP.
“I’m a big fan of voices… ones that sing with passion, and I guess that’s what I try to recreate through my music“, says Sinton. His ideals are perfectly reflected in each of the six tracks present on his new EP, Phosphenes. What a voice.
