The Big Moon has released their third album ‘Here is Everything’ with a killer new single, Daydreaming.
The Big Moon has unveiled a new track, ‘Daydreaming’, to coincide with the release of their third album Here Is Everything. Showcasing toe-tapping, shimmying, dance-able beats from drummer Fern Ford and a tidal wave of relatable emotion from vocalist Juliette Jackson, Daydreaming is a disco-tinged anthem and an ode to the difficulties of motherhood.
Like so many albums landing in store and on streaming services right now, Here Is Everything was conceived during the lockdown. Worlds were turned upside down and inside out. Lives became vastly different, and it felt like every day was a carbon copy of the last. So, whilst COVID pulled the duvet tightly up over our heads, it was also the unlikely backdrop to welcoming new life, which saw the birth of vocalists Jules’s, newborn baby.
Here is Everything documents the arrival of that baby in real-time, and the simultaneous arrival of a new mother, full of excitement and fear. Meanwhile, the rest of the band doubled down in the studio, taking Jules’ embryonic song frameworks and stepping forward as one, revelling in an innate, giddy togetherness with a clutch of genuinely fantastic tunes.
Vocalist and songwriter Juliette Jackson’s thoughts on ‘Daydreaming’ revolve around coming to terms with the highs and lows of parenting and shares:
“This is a weird one for me. I always thought this song was about breastfeeding but it’s so happy – and honestly my experience of breastfeeding was awful and one of the hardest times of my life. The breastfeeding I’m singing about in this song is the happiest, lightest, wooziest, cuddliest version of it. Looking back, maybe I was just yearning for that. Being unable to breastfeed felt like failure, like something had been taken away from me. I must’ve just wanted to imagine it had all gone a different way. It was a long time before I was able to be honest with myself about so much of the pain of the early days of motherhood. That’s the power of pop music isn’t it – you can be whoever you want to be. It’s happy and sad all at the same time.”
Here Is Everything was mostly self-produced, with the expert guidance and expertise of co-producers CECIL (Self Esteem, Jehnny Beth, PJ Harvey) and the Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Deer Hunter, and the producer of Walking Like We Do).
