Free karaoke, late night food, no lockouts: kick off your weekend at Goros

You might have heard the name Goros when the NSW Police inexplicably targeted the bar for – gasp – hanging a disco ball, but that was barely a thorn in the side of what has become one of Sydney’s best joints to head for a good boogie.

Every Friday night Goros hosts Friday Highlites, an end of working week bonanza featuring DJs such as Tyoow, Nickles, James Jensen and Adam Lewis, free karaoke, late night Japanese bites, and a killer drinks menu.

Free karaoke sound like your jam? Stop by Goros in Surry Hills for Friday Highlites, one of Sydney’s best spots to kick off your weekend.

First up, the basics. Friday Highlites is proudly lockout free, and entry won’t cost you a cent. Get in early or rock up nice and toasty after your work drinks went a little too late – you’ll be welcomed with open arms either way.

Goros’ three karaoke rooms are state-of-the-art, free to book for up to one hour and 45 minutes, plus you can splash out a little for personalised bar service while you belt your lungs out.

The song list is absolutely massive as well, to say the least. Kick your night off with some Bowie (Let’s Dance or Moonage Daydream), get shakin’ with a little CHIC (Good Times or Le Freak), then prepare to hit a few high notes once everybody’s nice and buzzed (I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness or September by Earth, Wind & Fire if you’re really feeling brave).

The drinks menu brings together some of Japan’s most fun drops, including sake bombs (a shot of sake dropped into a beer, for the uninitiated), Poppu (alcoholic bubble tea) and highball cocktails, and a wine list to boot.

On the food front you’ll be able to gorge on Goros’ full Japanese menu if you rock up before 10pm, at which point you’ll be able to order from the specially curated Late Night Menu. Nibbles include chicken karaage with mayo, pan-fried gyoza, wagyu cheeseburgers, and more.

Goros is located on Mary St in Surry Hills, Sydney. Find out more on their website.
