Good vibe purveyours Dubarray let us in on their secrets for touring the healthy way

Sunshine Coast third-eye rockers Dubarray are currently in the midst of a gigantic tour spanning four months and over twenty dates across Australia.

This kind of feat might send less seasoned bands into a spiral of insanity fairly quick, but not Dubarray. The band live a lifestyle that is wonderfully reflected in their music (a simmering pot of dub, world and reggae), one that is grounded by good vibes and clean living.

While this may not pertain to the ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll’ touring ethos that has been peddled by bands since the dawn of pop music, personally, we think this is probably the best way to stave off insanity and malnutrition while on the road.

We wanted to learn the secrets of the Dubarray touring lifestyle, so we asked them to provide us with guide to healthy eating on the road. They even chucked in a good vibes playlist for good measure too. Soak it up.

Dubarray let us in on their secrets for touring the healthy way, plus they’ve shared an epic good vibes tour playlist too. Soak it up.

Dubarray have spent a lot of time on the road as a band but also as individual musicians in past bands and one stigma we wanted to break is that you can’t eat healthy on the road. Good wholesome food makes us happy and fuels our energy levels needed for touring.

However, being vegetarian/vegan eaters (or, “Aware-etarians” as we like to rather say) makes the chase for ‘soul food’ a little more interesting and challenging than just pulling in to a maccas drive through.

1. Rule one is to have the App ‘Vegman’. This app has saved us so many times and delivered us to wholesome fresh vegan/vegetarian food within close proximity and without fuss. Also add ‘Bean Hunter’ for good coffee.

2. If there are no vegetarian restaurants or take out then head to your local store and stock up on fresh produce, bananas and avocados. Healthy snacks like muesli bars and nuts can get you out of trouble especially on long car rides. Also lots of organic dark chocolate instead of Cadbury / Nestle nasties :-)

3. If being served what people believe is vegetarian but is still a meat product, be polite and when they are not looking discard it in a discrete manor….or, opt for a band member to ‘take one for the team’.

4. Many times we couldn’t find a good vego meal we have resorted to hot chips (which Damo loves), and gourmet baked beans (lots of veggies added) with sourdough.

5. We have been to some remote places and have still managed to eat healthy while avoiding all fast food giants. Only reason to use them is for their toilets and occasional free wifi!
