Hype around the next GTA has gotten a lot more talk thanks to exposure of an unfortunate kind.
After spending the past week terrorising Rockstar with leaked gameplay footage, maps and alleged access to a playable build of the game, the mysterious leaker known as Cyberleek claimed they had one final trick up their sleeve.
A ‘dead man’s switch’.
For those who don’t know that is, it’s essentially a failsafe, a button that needs to be pressed every 24 hours to prevent an automated detonation.
In this instance, if Rockstar or Take-Two were to pursue Cyberleek legally and have him arrested, the leaker claimed an automated system would release his playable build of the game to the world for free.
This guy is moving like a Joker that was born from a vat of acid on Reddit, but luckily for Rockstar, the claim appears to have been fake.
The image supposedly showing the hacker’s mechanism has now been flagged as a fabrication, thanks to the courtesy of Insider Gaming.
It seems the memes have been mixed in with the facts.
The Cyberleek GTA 6 drama is the most watched thing in gaming right now.
Several X accounts pop up, either mirrors of him or people looking to cash in on the traffic or troll.
One is claiming a DEAD MAN’S SWITCH and fully DISTRUTED COPIES that will go out automatically.

That doesn’t mean Cyberleek’s actual leaks are fake.
The leaker has released a steady stream of GTA VI footage, including clips of the main character shooting active messages into the walls of buildings and locations around Vice City shown in trailers.
The leaks have gotten some further verification since Take-Two has also reportedly issued DMCA takedowns against released material.
You may ask why someone would do this? But there are several reasons.
Firstly, Cyberleek has framed the whole situation as an anti-consumer crusade on his website through his own edict.
The manifesto openly criticises digital pre-orders, paid DLC and games that require online connections for single-player content.
The vigilante is also getting his money’s worth from it.
Along with the edict, links to Cyberleek’s own crypto are plastered all over the website.
Even the voting process behind what will leak next is hidden behind a paywall.
Rockstar Games has not officially commented on the leaks yet, but thankfully the dispelling of the ‘deadman’s switch’ will encourage them to take further action.
Until then, a new internet villain is at large, masked behind the veil of ones and zeros.
