Zac, Josh, Jai and Joel are the Newcastle boys that make up punk-rock band Half Eaten Apple. With two out of the four members being previously linked to Another Broken String, the band are no strangers to the music scene, which is pretty evident through their unique and seasoned sound. Despite my opening statement, Half Eaten Apple are by no means limited to the punk-rock subgenre, listing some of their largest influences as reggae, folk, metal and pop – the diversity of which can be heard in the band’s sound.
Half Eaten Apple’s songs deal with a mishmash of stuff- some dark, some not – homelessness, love, youth, drugs, politics, broken families… The lead vocals (which are perfectly raspy) successfully deliver stories of experience and communicate underlying messages to listeners, while the heavy sound of the guitars and percussion compliment the lyrics perfectly. Half Eaten Apple are striking a balanced combination of punk, rock, folk and reggae, the combo of which is delicious.
Starting in only July of last year, the Half Eaten Apple boys have kept themselves incredibly busy by performing regular gigs in Newcastle and Sydney, with hopes of extending their touring circuit in the very near future. In addition to this, they have also been hard at work in the studio on an album comprised of 13 tracks – expected to be released later this year. Head to Half Eaten Apple’s Bandcamp page, and score yourself three demos and an awesome acoustic EP, all for free. You won’t regret it.
