We’ve almost reached the weekend, so let’s kick it off right. Every Friday check out Happy Listening; our list of the best new music this week has on offer.

Thelma Plum – Better in Blak

All year Thelma Plum has been teasing her new album Better in Blak, and now that it’s here, it’s better than we could’ve ever imagined.

With heartfelt tracks such as Love and War featuring Gang Of Youths frontman David Le’aupepe and the emotionally charged Homecoming Queen, the album reflects the healing process and life changes Plum has been through over the years. Expect honest lyricism, catchy hooks and her beautifully authentic vocals.

Khruangbin – Hasta El Cielo

Texan trio Khruangbin are back with another record entitled Hasta El Cielo, a groovy and transcendent release celebrating their instrumental talents once again.

The record is actually the dub version of their 2018 album Con Todo El Mundo, the highly-acclaimed songs lending themselves to reinterpretation with sultry instrumentation, experimental psychedelic elements and iconic bass hooks.

REMI  – 5 A.M. feat Whosane

New tune 5 A.M. is the perfect wakeup call, the vocals of REMI flowing between hard-hitting raps and smooth vocals alongside Sensible J’s rolling percussion.

Add in some retro R&B choruses with the help of Whosane, as well as infectious beats, dynamic synth sounds and complex percussion lines. You’ve got a banger.

Dope Lemon – Smooth Big Cat

Dope Lemon (real name Angus Stone) is back with his sophomore album Smooth Big Cat. Stone played every instrument, produced, and mixed all of the songs on the record. Because why not.

It’s a melting pot of tracks with similar sultry vibes, however, each carries its own lemony finesse with ease. PS – the ink is on them today, giving fans free Dope Lemon tattoos at selected tattoo parlours around Australia! Check where the closest one to you is here.

Banks – III

American singer songwriter Banks is back with her third studio album III, an experimental pop record rife with grit and a new wave of self-determination.

Her most daring album to date, Banks’ soaring vocals are effortlessly partnered with subtle instrumentation and heavy production.
