Fall into the hypnotic rhythms of Voodoo In Blue’s new single Dysthymia

With members based in both Australia and the US, Voodoo In Blue have spent the past number of years crafting a sound that feels simultaneously grounded and explorative; it’s rooted in alt-rock, but it reaches far wider.

In 2016, the band released their debut self-titled EP, and with its release, they immediately established their penchant for crafting immersive sonic gems. Now, with the release of their latest single Dysthymia, they continue to build their captivating brand of music. If you’re not already across this band, we strongly recommend you change that.

On their new single Dysthymia, Australian/US outfit Voodoo In Blue present a slice of alt-rock that simultaneously pulls in myriad emotional directions.

Throughout the new EP, Voodoo In Blue (made up of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Kyle McMenemy, guitarist/vocalist Layne McMenemy, bassist Dave Guilfoyle, and drummer Buzz Brown) navigate a concoction of alt-rock sounds to craft something that feels both vibrant and menacing.

With deep, dark bass lines and droning guitars, the track is steeped in an eerie energy, though with upbeat percussion and dreamy vocal melodies, a strange musical contrast is created. This duality is perhaps the track’s most endearing quality. Voodoo In Blue have developed an incredibly unique brand of music that leaves you entirely unsure of where you stand.

This is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from this Aussie/US band, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great material.

In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to the new track above.
