After a COVID-10 delay, pop and R&B hybrid Ngaiire is touring her latest album, 3, around Australia beginning this January.
Sydney-based, Papua New Guinea-born artist Ngaiire is raring to play her stunning new material around Australia in 2022.
While COVID-19 resulted in a reschedule from November, the artist’s perspective on the tour stands admirable and optimistic: “Call us crazy but if having HOPE is crazy then we’re ABSOLUTELY COOKED”. With the ethereal tones of 3 finally at our ears, here’s the backstory behind it, and where you can catch the future soul artist.
Ngaiire began writing 3 a few years ago, taking a small group of creatives with her to her home country. In New Guinea, the artist sourced inspiration from the visual aspects of her culture, then composed music for a contemporary age that aimed to “deconstruct people’s misconceptions of what a Papua New Guinean is”.
Through this educational lens, Ngaiire dug deep into the personal damages caused by her country operating on stolen indigenous land.
The artist released three singles from the project, including the pulsing, ’80-inspired, Closer, co-written alongside Japanese Wallpaper and Jack Grace. The full length was released on August 27th, via Dot Dash Recordings and Majestic Row.
Ngaiire describes the project in her mission statement as “a collection of love letters to 3 entities – myself, my country, and those I love both here and departed”. You can snatch up a pressing of 3 on black or green vinyl here.
Ngaiire’s Australian tour will be commencing January 13th at The Triffid, Brisbanem, and concluding February 4th at The Gov, Adelaide.
