Happy’s guide to the Easter long weekend: where to grab a drink

Easter egg hunts are cool and all, but nothing says ‘four days off’ like being able to grab a drink. This is our 2019 guide to the Easter Long Weekend.

The Easter Long Weekend is right around the corner, and apart from the odd Easter egg hunt, you may be wondering what to do with all that extra time on your hands.

Alcohol is not the answer, but there’s no harm in trying some local brews over the course of your four-day mini vacation. We’ve put together a little list of places you can drink other than your local. Try something new!

Young Henrys

If it’s an afternoon of crispy suds and good times you’re after, head down to the Young Henrys Brewery. Located just off Enmore Road on Wilford Street, the YH gang will be pouring their finest brews, including the limited edition Doubletowner from the Brewers B-Side Collection.

Hungry? We thought so. The weekend food trucks will be locked and loaded with authentic as hell Mexican treats courtesy of Rosa Cienfuegos and fresh, salty seafood from Ripper Tucker. The YH Tasting Bar is open from 12 pm-7 pm every day. Be sure to get down early, it fills up fast. Bring your doggos.

Sample the local Gin

If beer isn’t quite your thing, there are plenty of top-shelf gin distilleries around Sydney. Locally speaking, we recommend Poor Toms Gin Hall in Marrickville.

Not only do they “make the wokest damn gins this side of Alexandra Canal”, the venue itself is a really beautiful space. It’s the perfect place to start your local gin tour this Easter Long Weekend.

Order in

It’s 2019, and with everything under the sun now being delivered to your door, you can bet your bottom dollar that alcohol delivery is now a thing. Why it took so long we’ll never know, but boy are we glad it has happened.

Naked Wines is a top choice if you’re buying wine a few bottles at a time, offering you predetermined boxes as well as the option to build your own, if that’s your thing. Grab yourself a nice variety and you’ll be set not just for the long weekend, but months to come.

Bad Friday

This good Friday marks 10 years of Bad Friday, and you best believe it’s going to be a celebration. With a lineup boating local and international talent including The Avalanches, DMAs, Tropical Fuck Storm, and DZ Deathrays, the one day festival in Marrickville is not one to miss.

If you’re planning to kick off the long weekend at Young Henrys or Poor Toms, this is right down the road and the perfect next stop. Tickets are still on sale – grab some for yourself below.
