Henry Cavill has taken Witcher fans by surprise, as Netflix broke the news that the role of the Witcher, is being replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
The Witcher is a fantasy series television based on the best-selling books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It first spawned as a seriously great video game, before going on to become the surprise Netflix hit of the last couple of years.
The story is centred on a magical monster hunter, who has been played to perfection thus far, by Henry Cavil, whom fans can not get enough of. So it was met with a lot of shock – check out the comments below via Twitter – when he dropped the news that he is handing over The Witcher medallion to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth.
Henry Cavill is leaving the show after the upcoming third season, handing over the role of Geralt of Rivia to Liam Hemsworth, who by all accounts more than ready for it, check out his Instagram, he is setting some serious muscle competition for his older brother.
Netflix announced the news today and later confirmed by the actors via their social media profiles.
Cavill shared on Instagram: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season four.
“In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.
“Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Hemsworth returned with the message: “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.
“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
The third season, which wrapped filming last month with Cavill and is currently in post-production, will drop in mid-2023.

The Witcher needs Cavill a lot more than Cavill needs The Witcher. This show is a dead man walking. https://t.co/QbkkcsRKo9
