It’s been a couple of years now since we were first introduced to the politically charged hip-hop sounds of enigmatic South Coast MC and producer HMO. Since first bursting onto the scene, the artist has gigged extensively around NSW, refining his sounds into something pretty awe-inspiring.
Now, with the release of his new single Relax, Everything’s Fine, he continues to build himself as one of the most exciting emerging voices in Aussie hip-hop. If you haven’t already been paying attention to this name, it’s certainly time you changed that.
On his new single Relax, Everything’s Fine, South Coast MC and producer HMO delivers a politically-driven slice of pure hip-hop listening bliss.
Throughout the new single, HMO glides through his signature concoction of old-school beats and effortless lyrical flow. He seamlessly weaves vitriolic, politically-driven rhymes with groove-laden production to craft a track that’s perfect for both parties and protest rallies.
Relax, Everything’s Fine carries some pretty weighty subject matter. Over the course of its near four-minute duration, HMO tackles themes of insanity and social justice. The track is about “trying to stay sane in a world where there is an overload of media stimulus, where we are constantly overworked and where we see corruption and injustice on every level,” he says.
These are still relatively early days for this South Coast artist, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes from HMO.
