Indie-folk fans rejoice, Gordi is touring with Bon Iver

The celebrated Australian folktronica artist will be hitting the road with the indie-folk titans in early 2023

It’s official: Sophie Payten (known professionally as Gordi) will be the lead support for Bon Iver as they tour Australia in early 2023.

Kicking off on Friday the 17th of February at Sydney’s Aware Super Theatre. The tour will then hit Hobart, Perth (fitting, given Bon Iver named one of their best songs after the city), Brisbane, and Melbourne, before the band wrap their time in Australia with a headlining set at WOMADelaide. Full tour dates and ticket links are available here.

This isn’t the first time Gordi has crossed paths with Bon Iver, having collaborated with the band’s own Zach Hanson and Chris Messina for her two studio albums Reservoir and Our Two Skins. She was also slated to support the American band’s 2020 Australian tour before COVID forced its cancellation.

This week has also seen Payten release two new songs; a cover of Augie March’s classic ‘One Crowded Hour’ and a live rendition of her track ‘Unready’ from a Sydney Opera House performance earlier this year.

Speaking about her new cover, Payten states “My older brother bought Augie March’s album Moo, You Bloody Choir on CD in 2006 and I remember holding the maroon textured packet in my hand. I was revisiting all the Australian tunes that I love and ‘One Crowded Hour’ sits high on that list.”

One Crowded Hour / Unready (Live at Sydney Opera House) is available now on all major streaming services.
