Introducing: King of the North

King of the North are a hard hitting two piece rock and roll band from Melbourne who have been working hard to secure their place as rising tyrants and ones to look out for in the local scene. In the modern landscape of Australian music, a two piece rock duo may have you thinking of party thrashers DZ Deathrays or stoner slackers Dune Rats before they added their bass player. The difference here is rather than ‘making do’ with the sound of one guitar, the aim of King of the North is to quantify the experience of two guitars and bass with the use of only one guitar. This leaves King of the North sounding far more akin to modern Aus rock giants Airbourne.

Never underestimate how bold and rich a rock duo can sound. King of the North bring you explosively raw energy and power through vigorous instrumentals and vocals.

This sound is achieved from a technique pioneered by singer/guitarist Andy Higgs, dubbed as the “3 from 1 guitar technique”. How this works I have no fucking clue, but just know that it landed Higgsy a spot in Australian Guitar Magazine’s 25 future legends of guitar editorial. Higgs and drummer Danny Leo have an excellent understanding of what constitutes a well-constructed rock and roll song. There are rolling distorted riffs, well placed drum beats, killer breakdowns and that Aussie rock wail you’ve come to expect since the days of Bon Scott.

King of The North are gigging relentlessly in continued support of their 2013 debut Sound the Underground, the first birthday of which was celebrated on November 8. After a twelve date national tour in September and the release of a music video shot live at the Espy, King of the North have no plans of slowing down, as they have recently embarked on a massive Australian tour spanning the months of October through December, including six dates supporting The Mark of Cain.
