Introducing Tetrameth

Trance often goes unexplored by the majority of the populace… that’s probably because most have only stumbled upon the dark side of the genre, which can be quite overwhelming and unpalatable to the uninitiated. Unfortunately, this often works against the genre, which is tragic because trance has an unbelievable wealth of amazing sounds that can lead the listener to multiple mental orgasms. Therefore, it’s necessary to have ‘gateway’ music which can ease the transition into the genre; and this is where artists like Tetrameth come in. Don’t get me wrong, Tetrameth definitely dwells in the trance world, but also offers a new marvelous spin on the genre.

Melbourne based Peter Hayes is the mind behind the delicious demonstration of psy-prog at its best. Bearing traces of an amalgamation of influences which can be linked back to his graduation from the school of rock’n roll, Peter’s music refuses to remain within the designated lines that shape genres. Instead, its an unholy mess, and the results are super-pleasing.

For a one man show, he’s got a lot of stuff to brag about. He’s released two albums: Psychological Pyrotechnics (2006) and Eclectic Benevolence (2010), along with an army of collaborations with trance veterans such as Ace Ventura, Sun Control Species, Sensient, Captain Hook/Quantize and hordes more. And from Burning Man to Universo Parallelo to the Solarus Project to the Mushroom Valley to a number of major outdoor festivals, Tetrameth has been there, rocked that, worn the t-shirt and probably torn the t-shirt.

Attention Trance Newbies! Push play on The Mother Tongue from the album The Eclectic Benevolence (below) and you won’t regret it. The track’s got the classic punchy base-line that is balanced out by mellow spot-on percussion. There’s a trippy vocal clip and if you pay attention, she’ll tell you a story. The track bears all the signature sounds of the genre without getting too insane. All in all, Tetrameth is a work of a musical genius, and if you love music you cannot pass this artist by.
