Introducing the intimate folk magic of Melbourne songwriter STAV

It was in November last year, with the release of her latest single Poison Remedy, that we were first introduced to the contemporary folk brilliance of Melbourne-based singer-songwriter STAV.

Although a number of months have passed since the track first dropped, it’s a song we’ve found ourselves consistently revisiting. With the song’s release, STAV immediately established herself as one of the most exciting emerging songwriters in Aussie folk music. So, if you’re not already familiar with this name, it’s certainly time you changed that.

With immersive guitar work and raw vocal melodies, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter STAV has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting folk artists currently making the rounds.

Winner of the 2018 Folk Alliance ‘Young Artist of the Year’, STAV blends raw, earthy instrumentation with honest lyricism and emotionally resonant vocal melodies. The result is a sound that feels simultaneously familiar and fresh; a truly unique and captivating brand of folk music.

Since kickstarting her musical journey in 2016, with the release of her debut album The Horizon Line, the young artist has toured extensively around the globe, laying down performances in Barcelona, France, Portugal, Israel, and Canada, as well as major Australian folk festivals like Woodford Folk Festival.

With this kind of touring experience behind her, it should come as no surprise that her music holds so much maturity. STAV creates mini-universes within each of her songs, and getting lost inside them will never not be an enjoyable experience.

These are still early days for this Melbourne songwriter, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes from STAV.

For now, do yourself a favour and listen to Poison Remedy above. If you like what you hear, check out her full back catalogue of tunes here.
