Jimmy Barnes is recovering from ’50 years of stage antics’ in hospital

It seems that 50 years of on-stage antics have finally caught up with Jimmy Barnes.

Australia’s best-loved rocker, Jimmy Barnes is comfortably resting after hip and back surgery on Tuesday, which forced the singer to pull out of several upcoming shows.

Barnes announced the cancellations and delays at the tail end of November, citing it was due to 50 years of on-stage antics finally catching up with him.

“I’ve had niggling back and hip issues for years, but things suddenly got a lot worse over the last few weeks and I’m now in constant and severe pain.”

“As everybody knows, it’s against my religion to blow out gigs but the doctors tell me I need an operation as soon as possible and it will really limit my movement for a few months.

“As much as it kills me to inconvenience everyone, I have to get this fixed so I can jump around onstage for another 50 years.”

After undergoing surgery on Tuesday, Barnes is now recovering in the hospital, with his daughter Elly May and wife, Jane by his side. 

Barnes has kept fans updated via socials, and has responded to the hundred of well-wishers with the messages:

“Your ongoing messages of encouragement have been uplifting, they got me on my feet today,” he said. 

“Looks like I’m here for a while. The team is taking amazing care of me but I hope I’ll be home for Christmas.”

Barnes’s wife, Jane Barnes, tweeted a photo of the singer standing upright with the help of a walker, saying he was walking slowly.

and that his recovery is “So far so good,”.
