King Krule’s single “Seaforth” comes with a heartwarming music video featuring King Krule’s own dreams and two golden retrievers. Grab your tissues…
In the decade since his debut album, King Krule, aka Archy Marshall, has been on a journey. Now, with the announcement of his fourth studio album, Space Heavy, due out on June 9th via XL / Remote Control Recordings, it’s clear that the journey has been worth it. This latest offering sees Marshall at his most articulate, using his years of experience to craft a dynamic body of work that reveals something new with every listen.
The album’s first single, “Seaforth,” arrives today, complete with a charming music video directed by visual artist and frequent collaborator Jocelyn Anquetil. The dreamy, stripped-back melody of the track perfectly sets the stage for the video, which takes us on a journey through the sleeping mind of King Krule and the adventures of two golden retrievers, a father and his puppy.
Written over the course of 2020 to 2022, between London and Liverpool, Space Heavy is a 15-track full-length that embodies the deepest reaches of the subterranean sonic world that Marshall has been constructing throughout his career as King Krule. The album was developed by frequent collaborator and producer Dilip Harris and Marshall’s long-time band mates Ignacio Salvadores (saxophonist), George Bass (drummer), James Wilson (bass guitarist), and Jack Towell (guitarist).
For Marshall, the album is all about exploring “the space between” – the haunted space of dreams, the narrative of lost connections, and the inevitability of losing people and situations. But it’s not all darkness and despair – there’s also a sense of hope and wonder to be found in the spaces in between. Marshall has created an album that demands attention to both positive and negative spaces, offering rich rewards to those who are willing to dive in.
To celebrate the announcement of Space Heavy, King Krule has also released a range of exclusive merchandise, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, sliders, and new stock of his previous albums. For fans of Marshall’s unique and ever-evolving sound, this is an announcement not to be missed.
