The Inner West’s beloved King St Crawl is back in a big way. Now the King St Carnival, it will be coming to Gadigal Country January 14-16, 2022.
Since 2015, the King St Crawl has been a yearly festivity celebrating the rich, multilayered culture of Sydney’s Inner West. It has since evolved into the King St Carnival, casting an even bigger and brighter spotlight on the area’s local music, art, food, drink, and culture. Originally taking place in September 2021, the festival has now moved to the 14-16th of January, 2022.
Over 40 artists will perform across three days, taking over the Sydney Park Amphitheatre and Camperdown Memorial Rest Park. Find yourself in any number of the bars, cafes, shops, pubs, or venues that line Newtown’s King St over the mid-January weekend and you will be in amongst the vibes, with extended music programming planned all along the street.
The weekend kicks off with Inner West hip-hop duo, Horrorshow, and over the course of the next three days, some of Australia’s most beloved artists, including the singer-songwriting likes of Stella Donnelly, and Alex the Astronaut, as well as renowned live acts full of electricity such as Confidence Man and Touch Sensitive, will take the King St Carnival stage.
The original September 2021 lineup has been updated with some exciting new additions, including Sydney indie rockers Middle Kids following the release of their fearless sophomore album Today We’re The Greatest. Melbourne’s punk quartet Amyl & the Sniffers have also been added to the lineup, taking the stage in Sydney Park on the Saturday. Other new additions include RatCat, Mildlife, and Kaiit.
