Kirstie Alley, ‘Cheers’ actor, dies aged 71

Kirstie Alley, star of Cheers and Drop Dead Gorgeous has passed away, following a recent cancer diagnosis.

Kirstie Alley’s death was announced via social media on Tuesday (December 6) by her children, True and Lillie Parker. A statement posted to Twitter reads: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.”

The 71-year-old actress, known and loved for her roles in the NBC sitcoms Cheers and Veronica’s Closet, as well as the 1999 mockumentary Drop Dead Gorgeous will be remembered for her “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating,” as stated in the Twitter announcement.

Kirstie Alley was “surrounded by her closest family” at her time of death on Monday (December 5), and “fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”

Since the news of her passing came to life, stars and fans alike have taken to social media to deliver heartwarming tributes to the Emmy-winning actor, including John Travolta: “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” he wrote. “I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
